Through the Roof…Posted by Brian Ellicott in Friday Inspiration, Life, Training Inpiration![]() Tara Butcher and Erika Davis A great documentary film is due to be released very soon. It tells the story of two physically impaired, but mentally determined women who take on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa back in January of this year. Erika Davis, a paraplegic since 2005 becomes the first ever paraplegic female athlete to make the summit. She is accompanied by her team mate Tara Butcher, an amputee below the left-knee. The project came about with the aid of Paul Chek and the Challenged Athlete’s Foundation. It looks the source of some solid inspiration and a great story. You can watch the trailer at the Through the Roof website:

Jack LalannePosted by Brian Ellicott in Inspirational Trainers and Coaches, Training InpirationToday’s post is about “The Godfather of Fitness” – Jack Lalanne. Jack is a fitness and cultural icon, who has promoted the benefit of regular exercise and healthy eating in a career that has spanned over 70 years and inspired millions. He presented an extremly succesful television programme, called “The Jack LaLanne Show”, that ran for 34 years! Which educated the viewers – or “students” as he called them – on nutrition, exercise and general wellbeing. He also produced some famous quotes:
And my favourite:
Jack is still going strong at the age of 94, working out every morning in the weights room for 1 1/2 hours and then swimming or walking for another 1/2 hour. He’s a classic clip of Jack in action during his show: For information about Jack, visit his site at www.jacklalanne.com I’ve also added a link to Jack’s blog in my blogroll Thanks again to James at Excelsior for this excellent amd inpsirational material!

Friday Inspiration – Part 1Posted by Brian Ellicott in Friday Inspiration, Training InpirationThis is the first of a new series of posts, with the aim of providing a little inspiration for your training. In this first part, I want to follow on from the Oldtimes Strongman post from yesterday and feature some inspirational pictures taken from www.oldtimestrongman.com.
I think you’ll agree they are some truly amazing feats of strength! ![]() Chales Phelan - A legendary strongman! It never ceases to amaze me learning about the fantastic feats of strength performed by the great strongmen of the last century. Legends such as Eugene Sandow, Arthur Saxon, J.C. Tolson and many others would amaze crowds with their accomplishments. Way before steriods and sports science these legends could perform astounding feats of strength and physical might. Their “Physical culture” is also an inspiration, whereby everybody was encouraged to develop strength and improve their health and wellbeing. I’ve added a link to a great site called www.oldtimestrongman.com – which features some of the best pictures and information on how these legends developed their awesome strength. |
